Lok Samiti is a people’s movement inspired by Jayaprakash Narayan that has loosely connected branches all over India. In the village of Medhiganj, Lok Samiti was started by local youth who wanted to work with local children and help them with their education. When the Coca-Cola factory opened near them in 1999 and the community felt that the company conducted unjust practices, Lok Samiti took upon the issue. Today, although their work and members are local, they are also part of a larger social transformation process.
